Ascupart gargoyle, Curdridge 3D Model
A gargoyle drain spout with the head and body of the giant Ascupart who fought the legendary Sir Bevis of Hampton. Ascupart was 30 feet tall and wielded a massive club but was defeated by Bevis. His life was spared and became Bevis’s squire.
The sculpture is placed high up the bell tower of St Peter’s Church, Curdridge, Hampshire. The octagonal Tower was built in 1894 while the late Victorian church (1887) has become a Grade II Listed Building.
