Description: Coarse-grained Biotite Granite with megacrysts of salmon K-Felspar. This is a typical example of the Granite known as ‘sienite’ from Aswan, but should not be confused with the petrologcal term Syenite (which it is not). It is found in a number of localities between Aswan and the Shellal district.
Essential minerals: quartz, potassic feldspar (orthoclase, microcline), ± plagioclase, biotite.
Accessory minerals: magnetite, ilmenite, apatite, pyrite, zircon, tourmaline, etc.
