This vessel for fruity chocolate drink, now in the Denver Art Museum, once belonged to a provincial official (lakam) Nabnal K’inich, who served the ruler of Rio Azul. The painted scene shows Nabnal K’inich surrounded by his family members and wordly possessions in the presence of an important visitor and an attendant. According to the inscription, Nabnal K’inich even married into royalty. He would make Molière so proud!
