Atlas Bone, Mammal (Trnio)3D ModelNoAI
Today in the Digital Archaeology Lab we had our intern Sydney Weisbrod scan an atlas bone. The atlas is a specialized vertebrae that sits at the top of the spinal colum and articulates the spine with the skull. This bone in particluar comes from a large ungulate, mostly likely either an oxen or a bison. The bone itself indicates that the individual was rather sick as the bone features many pathologies. It was reconvered arhcaeologically through shovel test pit excavations.
This scan was done with the LiDAR feature on the Trnio app. The level of detail present in the scan is a testament to our intern’s dedication to an accurate scan and perserverance (it took three scans to get one that adiquately captured all the details).
