Shiny parts and repetitive patterns might seem like an obvious scanning challenge – they’re two of the most common obstacles one might face when working with 3D scanners. But with the 2022 Artec Leo, this axle shaft was captured in just 10 minutes. With shiny surfaces throughout, a matting spray was used to allow quick, thorough scanning of all sides. Another potential issue that was swiftly circumvented: a repetitive pattern. The same shape on all sides with continuous lines and ridges might imply you wouldn’t be able to tell one side from the other, but there was no confusion with the use of some targets pasted onto the object.
