More model informationClay figurine of a man riding a horse ( ANE.75.1913), with decoration in black from Deve Hüyük, Syria. Although this figurine was found in Syria, it either orginated from Cyprus or is a close copy of Cypriot-style horse figurines possiby dating from the Iron Age (10-8th cent. BC) or Archaic periods (8-4th cent. BC). Terracotta horse-and-riders became common tomb gifts during this period, possibly as status symbol of the deceased. They are also found as votive offerings in sanctuaries of male divinities. Draft model.
This 3D model was made as part of the #CEEF3D project at the Fitzwilliam Museum, in connection to Being an Islander: Art and Identity of the large Mediterranean Islands.
