In Japan, Shukoshin was practiced in aristocratic society during the Heian period. Then, around the Muromachi period, when “Koshin Engi” was created by the hands of monks, it gradually took on a Buddhist flavor, and Koshin memorial pagodas began to be built. On the other hand, it also spread to the private sector, and it became established in the form of Koshin-ko and Koshin-machi, the custom of holding all-night Koshin ceremonies with friends, by linking with the Koshin organizations of the village society.
