This curious and rather wonderful site which is full of features, sits on the west side of Backstone Beck on Rombalds Moor (West Yorkshire, England). In amongst the shallow delphs / pits is a nucleated walling structure(s) with an odd plan and a number of worked standing stones. Some believe these standing stones form a prehistoric stone circle or double stone circle, whilst others have suggested a Victorian folly. My leaning is more towards the folly than anything archaic, because of the lack of erosion on most of the upright stones, their similarity to gateposts and the nearby quarry. However, this is as much conjecture as a proclamation of antiquity, and we’ll never know without excavating the site. This model, which was created from 54 images captured using a Phantom 2 mounted Go Pro 3+ Black shows an area approximately 100 metres x 50 metres. It incorporates the quarry / delph, stone circle(s) and walling structures.
