This is a raised low mound on a small promontary around the central point of the southern border of Bàgh a’ Bhiorain, Loch Eport, North Uist.
It was first described during a survey trip by the St Andrews SCAPE trust survey in 2015 as “A sub-circular low terrace or platform, partly revetted on its NE side and c. 25m dia, includes a number of set boulders around or near its perimeter. Visited by Scotland’s Coastal Heritage at Risk (SCHARP) 10 April 2015”
The feature is a very noticable enriched green area in stark contrast to the surrounding hinterland which is low quality peat-rich heath gazing.
Canmore have given it a desigbation as a “Bank (Earthwork) (Period Unassigned)” but it appears to be somewhat more than that - but, please, make your own mind up and let me know.
