More model informationThe mystery of the Ballintoy clay figurine.
During the early 1930s a series of excavations were carried out on Potters’ Cave in Ballintoy, Co. Antrim. One of the strangest finds was this small crude ‘female’ figurine – so unusual in fact that that it was thought it was hidden as a prank by excavation staff! Recent research casts doubt on this and suggest an even more sinister interpretation. Perhaps made sometime between the end of the pagan Iron Age and the introduction of Christianity it is akin to a voodoo like doll used to cast a spell on an unfortunate victim.
