Ballistic force trauma The features and overall pattern of any traumatic injury depend on how the bone responds to different forces. Therefore, there are 4 principal types of skeletal traumas based on the mechanism and type of force that caused the trauma: sharp force trauma, blunt force trauma, thermal trauma, and gunshot trauma. This model illustrates a gunshot trauma on the left lower border of the mandible. The bevelling of the bone is one of the main characteristics that allow concluding the direction and path of the projectile. It is defined as bone erosion or the angling of the bone adjacent to the defect in the direction of the projectile. The bevelling occurs at the inner table of the entrance wound and on the outer table of the exit wound. Thus, the wound on the lateral surface of the mandible represents the bullet’s entrance, and the one on the medial surface represents the exit. Resource: https://mandibulartrauma.weebly.com/
