Ballymackeogh Passion Symbols3D Model
Medieval church ruins (TN037-002----) standing in Ballymackeogh (Baile Mhic Ceoch) graveyard, parish of Kilevellane (Cill Mhealláin/St. Mellan’s church), Diocese of Cashel, Barony of Owney & Arra, Co. Tipperary. In 1640 this church stood in the united parishes of Kylnerah & Kilmillan. The church & graveyard (TN037-002001-) stands on the landscaped demesne of Ballymackeogh House belonging to the Ryan family. Graveyard stands on a low rise of ground in flat pasture with the nearby Mulkear River to the north. Late 18th/early 19th-century headstone of the Frawley family standing in the south-east quadrant of Ballymackeogh graveyard to the south of the church. The top of the coffin-shaped headstone is decorated with the Passion Symbols also known as Instruments of the Passion or Arma Christi (Weapons of Christ). Instruments of the Passion (from Latin patior, “to suffer, bear, endure”), are the objects associated with the events leading up to the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
