Baluster (05752)3D Model
A large baluster shaped like a pillar or column with a herm on one side and a caryatid on the other. Underneath the naked torsos, which terminate abruptly at the thighs, are ornate shafts which rest on pedestals. The figures bear an Ionic capital and stand with their arms folded. The herm has a large moustache and the face is framed by long curly hair. The caryatid bears a long hanging veil on her head. The lower part of the pillar is draped with luxuriant clusters of fruit. The shaft terminates in a richly profiled base which forms the boundary between it and the pedestal. All four sides of the square pedestal are decorated with small masks. The pedestal rests upon a base that is profiled and bulges outwards. The baluster is sculpted all round. At either end there is a broad and strong tenon or peg by means of which the baluster is fitted in place. The sculpture is very well preserved
