More model informationHere we have scanned a 900 year old, historical relikt from Germany called, the “Barrbarosskopf” or “Cappenberger Kopf”. The Cappenberg/Barbarossa Head is a head reliquary dedicated to St John the Evangelist. The gilded bronze figure was commissioned by Otto von Cappenberg before 1158 and placed in the then collegiate church of St. John the Evangelist of Cappenberg Monastery. It is in the church treasury of today’s Catholic parish church of St. John the Evangelist. In 1886, Friedrich Philippi hypothesised that it was a more or less realistic portrait bust of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa.
