Gosodwyd baromedrau fel hyn gan yr RNLI o’r 1860au fel modd o wella rhagolygon tywydd gan ddefnyddwyr môr lleol fel pysgotwyr, a thrwy wneud hynny wella diogelwch ar y môr. Dyma enghraifft brin sy’n dal yn ei hachos gwreiddiol, gyda’i darlleniadau’n cael eu cofnodi’n ddyddiol.
A 19th century RNLI FitzRoy Barometer is located on the front wall of No. 20 Goat Street, St Davids. It was recorded with a photogrammetry survey on 11/06/2024, NPRN 800663, https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/800663
Barometers like this were installed by the RNLI from the 1860s as a means to improve weather forcasting by local sea-users such as fisherman, and in doing so improve safety at sea. This is a rare example that is still in its original case, with its readings recorded on a daily basis.
