More model informationThis bas-relief is located on the tombstone of General Jacques-Nicolas Gobert, in the Père Lachaise Cemetery. Gobert was a french general during the French Revolution and the First Empire. The bas-relief depicts the battle of Famars, in which he distinguished himself by his bravery. The text above it reads “The expiring General Dampierre instructed General Gobert to collect the remains of his army and gifted his battle sword to him. I hope, this one said, that I will still honor him”
The tombstone was sculpted by Pierre-Jean David d’Angers and is located in the 37th division of the cemetery
