This data is a River bed downstream from a Sluice gate.
How to use CloudCompare (https://www.danielgm.net/cc/) to add a hillshade effect to a pointcloud.
As you can see, the Hillshade really helps visualise the details in the data.
This is a useful workflow with noisey data sets - such as from SONAR Multibeam Surveys or even Mobile LiDAR datasets. I’ve also used this on Gridded Aerial LiDAR Data.
It works best with horizontal orientated datasets, as the process involves sampling the pointcloud to a 2D Raster. So while this does clean up your data and apply a nice hillshade - you need to use it with caution around vertical faces and overhangs etc.
