More model informationBeethoven Monument in Vienna. The monument from 1880 is dedicated to the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven who worked in Vienna and was created by the sculptor Caspar von Zumbusch. The monument shows Beethoven seated in strict historicist style on a square pedestal above a multi-stepped, laterally rounded pedestal, created by master stonemason Eduard Hauser. At his feet the bound Prometheus (left) and Nike with raised laurel wreath (right) as well as nine music-making putti as allegories to his 9 symphonies. In 1878, the cast model of the monument, which is now in the foyer of the Vienna Konzerthaus, was presented at the Paris World’s Fair and awarded a gold medal.
