Belemnites are an extinct order of squid-like Cephalopods from the late Triassic to late Cretaceous period. They had an internal “bone” structure made of Calcite called a “guard” that becomes fossilized and found present day. They were usually around 1/2 meter (1.5ft) long, although some were bigger.
