Most flying car proposals are pure sci-fi or represent some sort of compromise, they lack the functionality of either the car or the airplane - usually because they are trying to be an all-in-one solution. My idea is to split the flying car into parts: the people part, the flying part, and the car part - each gets to be good at what it does without compromising too much. This new form of the Bentley “Flying Spur” is more akin to a service like NetJets than a car lease. You don’t buy the car, you own pod with the seats. When you want to go somewhere, the car part autonomously drives you to the most convenient pickup point, the flying part grabs the pod, you fly to your destination where another car is waiting to grab your pod and drive you to wherever you need to go. Why is the flying part so tall? Those ducted fans are probably going to make some noise, so the idea is to get them up and away to reduce the noise levels. It takes off vertically, but angles forward in flight for faster cruise speeds.
