More model informationRock Cannon are a means of celebrating important occasions in the Welsh mining and quarrying communities. They date to the late 19th and 20th centuries and consist of rock drilled holes connected by cut channels into which a small charge of black powder was placed. Explosive bangs occurred in sequence when ignited at weddings, coronations and visits by landed gentry. There are 3 rock cannon by the river in Betws y Coed. This is the second largest example at the site which is located on a boulder adjacent to the river. The rock cannon were fired on 3 occasions between 1911 and 1969.
