Balquhidder Churchyard (Canmore ID 80644), grave slab 10.5m SSW of SE corner of the Old Kirk (SM5588): 10.15m SW of SE corner of Old Kirk (SM5588): site co-ordinates: 33.90/18.40

Subrectangular slab, 1.80m (W-E), and up to 0.65m wide at W, and 0.50m wide at E. Rough undulating surface, dipping down at W. Large masses of quartz in W half, around which the carving is arranged. This comprises (W-E):

• part of a circular ring mark at NW corner,
• plain cross at NW corner in negative relief (0.18m W-E, by 0.21m N-S),
• sword in positive relief midway along N side; hilt with bulbous pommel at W and flared cross guards at right angles; slightly sinuous pointed blade (or sheath?) to E,
• oval ring (0.13m by 0.11m) in negative relief (deeper around edge) to S of sword blade,
• slightly irregular cross in centre of slab towards E end, in negative relief (0.24m W-E and N-S),
• raised oval, possibly shaped natural feature at NE
• ring mark (0.13m in diameter) in negative relief;
• a number of small circular depressions
