Gomphothere mandible originally described (Shotwell and Russell 1963) as Platybelodon from Black Butte fauna, Juntura formation, Malheur county, OR. Recently described as the new species, Eurybelodon shoshanii (Lambert 2016). Specimen is in the collection of the University of Orgeon, Museum of Nature and Culture, Eugene, OR.
