Black Caiman (NHMW-Zoo-HS 31559)3D Model
3D scan of a juvenile black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), that measures 1.08 meters. These carnivorous reptiles are one of the largest extant members of the order Crocodilia and can reach a length of up to 5 meters! Black caimans live along freshwater habitats such as slow-moving rivers and lakes in South America. Their size makes them the largest predators in the Amazon basin.
This Melanosuchus niger can be found in Hall 28 at the NHM Vienna.
