Black chess piece (NHMW-AFW-DING-0101)3D Model
3D scan of a wooden chess piece from the winter camp of the Fram Expedition 1895/1896 on Franz Josepf Land. The expedition was led by the later Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen (1861–1930).
The chess piece is very likely a king. This type of representation was common during the 18th and 19th century.
The chess piece is currently on display in the exhibition ˈARTIC. The Changing Polar Worldˈ (until September 2024) of the NHMW.
