A drinking cup (kylix) from Magna Graecia decorated with a repeating design of acanthus motifs, perhaps depicting a series of acanthus finials along the edge of a roof, represented by the circular motifs. The acanthus motifs are in the black figure style, and appear to have been finished by the potter with incisions after firing the design.
The kylix was an important object of cultural significance in classical Greek society, forming an integral part of the famous symposia - drinking and socializing events enjoyed by the elite.
Part of the ‘Beyond Attica: The Art of Magna Graecia’ exhibition of the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, which displays a collection of on loan from the Koumantitakis Family.
The 3D model was produced using photogrammetric modelling of the original, compiled from 300 colour checked images in Agisoft Metashape. The original model was compressed using Rapid Compact.
