Black-Topped Red Ware

An ancient Egyptian black-topped red ware (also known as B-Ware) vessel dating to Naqada I-II of the Predynastic period.

The vessel is made from Nile silt which oxidises to a reddish-brown colour. Although the exact methods of production of these vessels are debated, recent experimental archaeology has attempted to recreate these vessels (Hendrickx, Friedman, & Loyens, 2000).
