This is a photogrammetry-generated model of Excavation Block D at Site 41CM204 at the Headwaters at the Comal facility in New Braunfels, Texas, United States of America. This was the deepest block of the Headwaters excavations, reaching approximately 3.3 meters below the surface. You can see a dense layer of rocks near the ground surface. Those rocks correspond with a burned rock midden feature, which is a pile of burned rocks and debris used for large-scale cooking. Excavations were sponsored by New Braunfels Utilities for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and the Antiquities Code of Texas. Archaeologists from AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (www.amaterra.com) directed the excavations, working with counterparts from Texas State University’s Center for Archaeological Studies.
