More model informationDating from 1750-4, this is a tureen and cover in the form of a boar’s head.
Probably one of the most eccentric pieces in the Dunimarle Collection, it was made in Strasbourg in a style of pottery called ‘faience’. This term is used to describe tin-glazed earthenware made in France, Germany, Spain, and Scandinavia.
Characteristic is a white and opaque glaze which is painted with fine designs. The tureen bears the mark ‘H’ for the Hannong factory, possibly the best-known faience manufacturer of the age.
