Bone Die - Barwick's Ordinary3D Model
This bone die was discovered during excavations of Barwick’s Ordinary, an archaeological site in Eastern Maryland of a late 1700s tavern and inn once run by James Barwick. Records, however, indicate that Barwick was enjoined to “…not sufer loose idle or disorderly persons to tipple, game, or commit any disorders or other irregularities in his said Ordinary,” making the find all the more interesting to consider (Matthew D. McKnight and Zachary F. Singer, “James Barwick’s Ordinary: Geophysical Remote Sensing at an 18th-Century Tavern Site in Caroline County, Maryland,” Maryland Archaeology, 2020).
This model was made with photogrammetry in the field and meshed with Agisoft MetaShape. Blender and Instant Meshes were used for further processing. Modeling was done by Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in collaboration with the Maryland Historical Trust and Washington College during the Archaeological Society of Maryland’s annual field session for 2022.
