Harpoon heads from the early to late Jomon period have been excavated. The two-pronged tip was used to attach an arrowhead. The arrowhead was fixed in place with asphalt. It is made from the horn of a Hokkaido deer, and is thought to have been used to catch fur seals, dolphins, and tuna.
