In this project, my conflicting representation is the conflict between love in America. By employing a 3D scan of one of the world’s most famous queer storylines, later adapted into the Netflix show “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman, I aim to showcase queer love. However, the book’s physical presentation is symbolic: it is bound or closed by strings with a bow in red, white, and blue, representing America’s imposition on love. The tape on the side, marked with an “x,” symbolizes the book bans championed by Republican Americans against queer love. Additionally, on the back are cut-out images of riots in America, representing the “over-traditional American” ethos, which conflicts with and restricts queer love in America.
