Boulder w/Archaic Petroglyphs (07_014_335-CH)3D Model
A petroglyph boulder in a shallow wash on a sloping escarpment of a mesa in northern New Mexico, along the banks of the Rio Grande. The two petroglyph panels on this boulder date to the region’s Early Archaic Period, between 9,500 and 3,500 years ago. Because of their age, these petroglyphs have developed a dark patina that makes them difficult to see, however some are pecked deeply enough to cast a shadow.
The Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project is a 501(c)(3) community-based non-profit dedicated to education, heritage stewardship, and the preservation of archaeological features, cultural heritage, and the environment of the northern Rio Grande Valley through documentation, education, and outreach.
