More model informationBrideswell is a holy well dedicated to Saint Brigid. It is a documented centre of pilgrimage and devotion since medieval times, although the place probably originated as a prehistoric pagan cult centre. It was visited on Garland Sunday. The site consists of a spring and associated pool and a bath house which was constructed in 1625 by Randall MacDonnell, Earl of Antrim. The site is one of a number of holy wells in County Roscommon that were visibly re-edified in the seventeenth century.
