More model information

British 1796 Light Cavalry Sabre (1796 LC) is one of the most famous and influential sabres in western European arms & armor history. By the time it arrived, it started a fashion in curved swords in Britain and many infantry officers had their (regulation) spadroons replaced by something similar. This model is one of them. 1796 LC-inspired Infantry sabres were usually shorter and lighter for better controls when used on foot. They also tend to have their weight distributed towards the back.

This model features a clipped point much like the pattern 1796 LC with a signature wide fuller plus two additional narrow fullers on two sides. With its aggressive distal taper and wide profile, it has some fearsome cutting power.

The grip of this model is significantly smaller than many sabres of later era. For a handshake or hammer grip, its size has to be close to the shape of the hand to lock it tightly in place. Combined with the wide blade, it leaves this majestic proportion.
