More model informationModel of the iconic slot hilt sabre. With 80cm length, the blade features a fearsome broad fuller and very aggressive distal taper(reduction in thickness). It tapers from 8mm at the base to half of that in less than 1/3 to the tip. The top 1/3 area are less than 2mm, giving the sword excellent handling despite its width.
Such officer’s sword would usually have its grip wrapped in fish skin and metal wires. A metal sheet is also present to cover the back of the grip for durability, though it can sometimes be slippery.
Traditionally, the guard was cast in brass, hence the gold look. Brass is soft, so people also ordered steel guards that gilded in brass to match the regulation.
