A White Painted Ware Cypriot juglet dating to the Middle or Late Bronze Age, 1800-1450 BCE.
This handmade juglet is decorated with a cross-hatched diamond pattern painted down the slender neck, with wavy cross hatch lines and bands decorating the body. Such small jugs are generally believed to have been used for high grade oil or other valuable liquids. The juglet has a height of 157mm.
The juglet is on display as part of the ‘Cypriot Pottery of the Bronze and Iron Ages’ exhibition of the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, and is on loan from the Peter Mitrakas and Mary Ann Savas collection.
