Osiris was the god of the dead and king of the afterlife. Egyptian mythology tells of his murder by Seth, the brother of Osiris, and resurrected by his wife and sister Isis. This statuette shows Osiris in a mummiform pose holding a crook and flail, symbols of kingship. On his head Osiris wears the atef crown.
