Broughmore Wood 4 - Quern Stone QuarryingYour model is disabled. For more details go to Edit properties3D Model
A highly eroded surface that may originally had more carvings upon it. There is a large bowl shaped depression at the top of the outcrop with a central cup-like mark, which is probably where a quern stone has been extracted. There are also a couple of miniature quern stone rough-outs on the smoother surface just beneath the moss covering.
A plan is now in the pipeline for a full excavation of the site, which it is hoped will shed more light on its chronology and, hopefully, reveal even of these more fascinating rock surfaces.
This panel was recorded and 3D modelled by Nick Parish for Scotland’s Rock Art Project (ScRAP).
