English binding, early 17th century, circa 1620. Brown calf over pasteboard; elaborately gold-tooled. On both covers, a central lozenge, cornerpieces, and frame, all comprised of small tools (notably curved palm fronds, marguerites and pomegranates); outer border comprised of the same, delineated by single gilt fillets. Spine in seven compartments outlined by gilt fillets, with gilt flower-in-vase and small floral tools. Boards edges gold-tooled with alternating single and hatcheted fillets divided by transverse fillets. Gilt textblock edges.
