More model informationBuarth Cerrig Gwynion is a post-medieval multi-cellular sheepfold at Mynydd Llandegai, Gwynedd (Gwynedd HER PRN 29989). Multi-cellular sheepfolds such as this would have been used for sorting and separating sheep from various farms when they were being brought down from upland grazing areas. The entire flock would first have been herded into the large central dividing pen and then separated into the smaller cells, each of which belonged to a different farm.
The sheepfold lies close to the edge of Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda. The survey was commissioned by Breedon Group PLC in October 2023 in advance of the proposed expansion of quarrying activities into the area.
