Bucket Well 2024 clay and underglaze
LeShaye Swan is an Arrernte and Warlpiri woman and emerging ceramicist. She was raised by her grandmother Sandra Pumani in Mimili, a remote Aboriginal community on the APY Lands in South Australia. LeShaye fondly remembers her great-great-grandmother Milatjari Pumani and great-grandmother Ngupulya Pumani taking her out on bush trips whilst Sandra was at work. LeShaye began her ceramics practice in early 2024. In this work, LeShaye’s large-scale hand-built vessels encompass motifs of wildflowers and the native scrublands that surround Mimili, notably Bucket Well, a place where her family spent lots of time sharing culture.
