When the Buffalo Bar closed, Will Durham, from the Nevada Neon Project, reached out to the general manager of the property about preserving the sign. He was told to talk to one of the local managers in Sparks, Nevada, where the property is located. The local manager told Will that their plan was to blow it up off the rooftop of the building for their grand opening of the new business. Although this made no sense, this brought a sense of urgency to save the sign before it was destroyed.
