Burial Mound (Tumulus) from Biokovo, Croatia3D Model
This 3D model showcases one of the many burial mounds, or tumuli, scattered across the Biokovo Mountain in Croatia. These ancient stone structures, visible as circular formations in the landscape, represent a necropolis with burials spanning from the Bronze Age to more recent historical periods.
This particular tumulus is located near the Vič locality in the southeastern part of Biokovo, in the Podglogovik valley extending to Prisika. Interestingly, the tumulus was later repurposed as a military installation, forming part of the Austro-Hungarian defensive artillery line known as the “Topnički put” (Artillery Road).
During an archaeological excavation conducted between November 11–17, 2024, a trench was opened in this tumulus. While no burial was uncovered in this initial investigation, future campaigns aim to explore further sections of the mound.
This burial was surveyed under the EcoEcho scientific project, funded by the EUCONEXUS.
