More model informationLocated along Hiway 3 in the Crowsnest Pass region of southwestern Alberta, the Burmis Tree is a limber pine estimated to be between 600 and 750 years old at the time of its death in the late 1970’s. The high wind speeds experienced in this region of the province actually toppled the tree in 1998. The tree is a significant heritage symbol to local residents, and this prompted the Alberta Government to repair and stabilize the tree using steel rods and braces. These can be seen in the point cloud if one looks closely. The Burmis Tree was captured using a Z+F 5010X scanner. It will soon be added to our digital heritage archive as one of several biological heritage sites. (alberta.preserve.ucalgary.ca).
