Luna Drexler 1882–1933
Luna Amalia Drexler was a noted cultural and public figure of interwar Lviv. She was engaged in sculpture, painting and philosophical practices
Luna Drexler’s works reflect the main trends in art and philosophy of the first third of the twentieth century. After all, for the modern era, art was inseparable from philosophy, which has always sought answers to the eternal questions of human existence. This, obviously, stimulated the young artist from Lviv to travel throughout Europe. Like many other young artists of the day, Luna Drexler studied in the main cultural centers of that time – Krakow, Paris, Munich. In particular, she studied sculpture with prominent artists such as Antoine Bourdelle and, of course, Auguste Rodin, whose work has heavily influenced the young sculptor. Another person who played a major role in the artist’s life and influenced her philosophical views was Rudolf Steiner, whom Luna Drexler met in Munich and eventually became a member of the Anthroposophical Society
