A United States Air Force C53 Skytrooper, from the 21st Troop Carrier Squadron that crash landed in the north Kimberley of Western Australia on 26th February 1942.
The C53 was involved in ferrying Dutch refugees from Broome to Perth before the Japanese advance on Java. It was on the return leg from Perth to Broome when it could not locate Broome Airfeild and became lost, the c53 ran low of fuel 360 miles north east of Broome and the pilot brought the plane down with the landing gear up on a saltpan in Vansittart Bay.
