Right now this is an early WIP. I plan on updating as I go along.
Figured I’d make a neat aircraft model for the /r/Blender subreddit, as they have a monthly contest. This month’s theme is “vehicles”. So I was looking for something neat that I haven’t seen 3D modeled much.
Thus the choice of the Commonwealth Aircraft Company’s CAC-19 “Boomerang”. This aircraft was flown against Japanese expansion by Australia in WWII, however it tended to have more of a support role than being a main fighter.
Right now there’s not much in detail, as the current mesh here is a template that will be modeled over. I found this retopo-style modeling for mechanical things gives a lot more freedom in developing edge flow while it maintains surface alignment with the volume provided by the template. So expect changes as this is updated.
Also here’s a link to the video from the last live stream of modeling this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGtPBvbrx4U
Next stream should be sometime in the afternoon/evening (U.S. Central).
