The Campo property is a former commercial sand mine in Millstone, NJ. The mine contains one of the most well-preserved outcrops of the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K/Pg) Boundary Event that marks the extinction of the dinosaurs. The thin layer at the halfway point of the outcrop is the extinction layer enriched in iridium deposited by the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.Together with the adjacent active Buck property, Monmouth County is working on preserving this unique resource as the Millstone Geological Park.
