More model informationA rare, intact can of “A. Granday’s Clear Green Turtle Soup” from Key West, Florida, ca.1930. From the mid-1800’s to the 1970’s, turtle soup was one of the island’s signature products, and the delicacy was shipped all over the world. The Armand Granday family operated a soup cannery only from 1890-1910, but successive owners kept the Granday label until Key West turtling ended in 1971. The turtle soup industry nearly wiped out the Green Sea Turtle, and its effects created the need for today’s turtle conservation efforts. Today, the story of this unusual business can be seen at the “Key West Turtle Museum.”
